Wow! It's hard to believe that our dojo has reached this important milestone. It's even harder to believe that I've been here for the whole time! A lot has changed since we started this journey; our first few years we practiced in a judo dojo. On a soft mat that forgave our bad fumi-komi habits. But a lot has remained the same: our passion for the fantastic art of kendo, the wonderful friendships we've formed, the serious dedication of our members.
So to celebrate this momentous occasion we're hosting our first kendo tournament. Of course, we're also throwing a party! And we are hopeful that you'll help make this one of the highlights of 2010. So, register today using our on-line registration app and don't forget to book your hotel room, too. There are only 33 days left! Registration closes on April 12, 2010.
We've designed this site to be as easy to use as possible. Here are some important things to know about this site:
All hyperlinks on this site will be in yellow text without underlines. No other text will be in yellow, so if you see yellow text it's a link to another page. In fact, everything yellow is a link including buttons.
Once you've started the Registration process go all the way through to the end. Do not use the back button. Once you've registered you will recieve a confirmation email so it's important to enter a valid email address. Click on the link in the email to activate your registration. You can then log in and make any updates to your registration. Once you are statisfied with your registration you can click the Paypal button to pay on-line. It's that easy. After registering please come back to this site to see who's coming to the shiai and what the matchups will be. We'll also be posting any updates here.

Gracias,
David Harrison

According to the kendo dictionary ko ken chi ai is the desire to achieve mutual understanding and the betterment of humanity through kendo. The camraderie engendered by kendo has been of tremendous importance to Boston Kendo Kyokai. We have been blessed by all the friendship and support we've received over the years and would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all who have helped shape our dojo. From the original founders to the BKK alumni to the many visitors and guests, from all over the world, we'd like to say "Domo Arigato!"
A special thanks goes out to Mr. Nelson Sigelman, Mr. Naomichi Asano and the late Mr. Jack Thayer the three most instrumental in establishing a kendo dojo in Boston.
During the first twenty years of our existance, we were the only kendo dojo in Massachusetts. We had to travel to New York, or further, to practice with kendo friends. Now there are several kendo dojos in Massachusetts that have enriched the kendo environment offering us the opportunity to challenge ourselves and to gain different perspectives on kendo. So we would like to say thanks to Mr. Toshihiro Ogimura, Mr. Thomas Hooper, Mr. Barry Poitras (a BKK alum), and Mr. Sam Sekiguchi.
We would also like to thank Mr. Noburo Kataoka of NYC Kendo dojo and Mr. Daniel Ebihara of Ken Zen Institute for their support over the years.
The kendo dictionary also states that ko ken chi ai also refers to the desire to practice or have a match with opponents one has practiced or had a match with before. With that in mind we hope many of our kendo friends will participate in this milestone event and make it one of the most memorable and fun events of 2010. Gambate!
