Boston Kendo Kyokai Hatsu-geiko
January 5, 2009
This year’s hatsu-geiko was another exciting and challenging keiko with our traditional 2,000 suburi. Most of the attendees had participated in last year’s keiko and knew that they could perform 2,000 suburi, but this year their challenge was to focus more on perfecting technique and ki ken tai itchi. For the new participants the challenge was to defeat their own doubts and do as many as they could, perhaps even 2,000! It took about an hour to complete using one set of 200 jogeiburi, three sets of 500 shomen suburi, two sets on 100 each kote and do suburi. We finished with a strong 100 hayasuburi! After suburi we had 45 minutes of jigeiko!

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who participated. Attending were Daisei Konno, Tomas Peloso, Oleg Stakhanov, Andres Cruz, Jeff Wei, Joe Koon, James Landon, Viviana Peloso, Jie Wu and Melody Fisher from Boston Kendo Kyokai and Tatsu and Taka Kasai from Boston Shufukai.
Next year as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations we are planning on 3,000 suburi. Anyone in Boston next January is invited to join our challenge.
